Born in 1987 in Baku (Azerbaijan) and living in Baku and London, artist Elnara Nasirli talks about the central message of her artistic work in her interview.
Please describe the core theme and central message of your work.
For me, art is about being authentic and live with the world . Your every moment of evolution is bare. It takes a leap of faith. When i create I come out of my armor and connect to the deepest and most vulnerable parts of myself. That is why my paintings are often so big, because the emotions I feel during the process are all consuming and expand beyond the framework of the mind, body and traditional canvas size. I create limitless worlds that the audience can experience and relate to.

Armour, 2022
200 x 200 cm, mixed media on canvas
This piece is a self-portrait representing the juxtaposition of inner strength and vulnerability.
Persistent physical limitations make it increasingly challenging to work, however, they motivate to create bright limitless worlds in defiance of the impasse. Each world is a unique and immersive experience of escape and exploration of mental and emotional potential. We all yearn for a place that will empower us. If not found, we should all create our own.
What is the goal of your art, of your work – what is it supposed to do for the viewer?
Transport the viewer into a world that they would like to exist in – whether its peaceful, powerful, melancholy or simply awe-inspiring.
